Internet Cafes and Financial Transparency

You may or may not know that Without Limits partners with two cyber cafes. Cyber cafes are computer labs where people can go to get on the internet. Students are supposed to use them to complete research projects and assignments. Although, I know they also use it to get on Facebook and watch funny videos.

Without Limits has worked for a long time to always give out goods and services  and not money to students and families. When students came and would ask for money so they could research assignments, we didn’t know what to do. The last couple of years we started working with two cyber cafes. Students in 5th grade and up receive an ID card from us that they can go and do their work and even print pages out without any money being exchanged. Sponsorship staff then pays a monthly amount to each location.

Gabriela met with a group of Santa Matilde students recently who are in their first year of high school and showed them where the cyber café is and how to use it.

We are continually working out little issues we have but have found some incredible partners. Not only do we get to empower students to do well in school but we are also supporting local businesses.

Working with these locations is an example of why we view sponsorship funds as a whole instead of directly to individual students. Yes, your support goes to help your specific child do well and succeed. However, if your student is below 5th grade, your support also goes to help other students be able to complete their assignments in cyber cafes. All students have different needs. The academic needs of a high school student in Santa Matilde who has to take the public bus to school everyday are different than those of a student in the same grade who lives within eyesight of where they study. The young elementary school student who has various hands on projects needs different school supplies than the high school student who completes research assignments.

No student is the same. Some students receive things that others do not. Our goal is that every student has exactly what he/she needs to succeed academically. We work hard to make sure this happens and encourage students and families to tell us in what areas we can improve. Without Limits meets with parents regularly to hear concerns and we are always looking for solutions.

It is important to us that we have your trust and understanding so we try to be as transparent as we can with our finances. Please feel free to email us at sponsorship@newsongnica.org with any questions. We love our students and are so excited about the growth we are seeing!
