After our first field trip of the year, we were able to make two additional trips to do the history of Leon tour. These two trips included the 6th and 7th graders from Candelaria, Nuevo Amanecer, and La Isla. We had such a great time exploring churches, visiting museums, climbing the cathedral, and experiencing Leon with these incredible students!

After walking around the city and visiting several of Leon’s churches, we made our way to the Myths & Legends Museum and the Revolutionary War Museum.

The Myths & Legends Museum is interesting because it was built in a former war prison. Our 6th graders were acting like they were locked up.

After the museums, we ate lunch together and enjoyed delicious ice cream from our friends at Kiss Me. Our kids also had some time to hang out in Leon’s central park and just enjoy their time together. We love to see their personalities come out during these free times! Our students loved climbing on the lion statues and chasing and feeding all of the pigeons in the park.

Each of our Leon field trips ended with the opportunity to climb Leon’s main cathedral which is the largest cathedral in Central America. We were able to walk along the roof to look out over the city and surrounding volcanoes. We also learned about the construction of the cathedral, explored inside the church and visited Ruben Dario’s tomb. Ruben Dario is Nicaragua’s most famous poet and his tomb is located within the cathedral. The cathedral is most of our students’ favorite part of the field trip.

We have had an amazing time exploring this beautiful city with all of our 6th and 7th graders. They have learned a lot about Leon’s history and have thoroughly enjoyed their adventures in the city.
